Winter Opening   (2009, by appointment only)

For winter, shocking pink Silene was sown to contrast with the lime green Euphorbias with a backdrop of pink flowering Prunus trees.

This vista of pink, lime green and pink with no interference from the Roses (as they are still dormant) is cheery against a rainy sky when viewed from the house. Jonquils, followed by Daffodils, also contrast with these colours as well as later blue bells with ajuga reptens.

By mid October early bearded Iris are flowering as well as the blue Dutch iris.  Malnus eleyi, the dark pink crab apple, looks good and the Wisteria on the large arbour has dropped its racemes.

The smell of growing vegetation is in the air and intoxicating. It is an exciting phase for plants.

Roses are in flower with nepeta, daylilies, dianthus, diascia and delphiniums. Pierre de Ronsardt on the small arbour is fabulous.  Spring is giving way to summer. Poppies are everywhere including Papavera orientale.

Progressive Development

Every year we try to work on new projects.

In 2006 we built a glass house.  We are still working on this.  Statues have been mounted in the rose garden.

2007 has seen the formation of a lake with border plantings to attract the native fauna.  A family of kangaroos have taken up residence already.  This area will take a few years to develop.

The Garden Pavillion our charming Bed and Breakfast accommodation enables us to share the garden with others who love tranquillity and beauty.

Moving Ruth's antique business to our home at AL-RU Farm has enabled her to spend more time developing and nurturing the garden.  She has re-opened a city showroom this year.

We thank you for sharing our garden with us. Please come and visit.
